Mountain Climbing

In this age of commercially guided expeditions and vacationing hordes in the Himalaya, Stephen Venables, a member of climbings greatest generation (and the first Briton to summit Everest without oxygen), still seeks out climbings loneliest and most difficult challenges. In 1924 Phyllis Munday did what no other woman had done before -- reached the summit of Mt. Robson. She climbed close to 100 mountains in her lifetime, many of those first ascents. She honed her outdoor skills as a Girl Guide leader and later joined the BC Mountaineering Club and climbed the mountains around Vancouver. When she met Don Munday, Phyl found her lifetime climbing partner. Throughout the 20s and 30s, the Mundays pioneered exploration into the heart of the Coast Mountains as they undertook an 11-year quest for "Mystery Mountain, " a majestic peak Phyl had glimpsed rising above all others in the Coast Range. Cannon Mountain (New Hampshire) - Cannon Mountain (formerly Profile Mountain) is a 4,186 foot (1,276 meter) peak in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.
